We asked the artist about this print and Charles said: "We had just checked in to our hotel room in Amsterdam, coming in from London, early April, 1987. It was about midnight and I saw this fabulous scene out our window. It was my first real look at Amsterdam. I opened the glass, set up a small tripod on the sill and made several long exposures. Then we went out and partied till all hours. Amsterdam is so beautiful and so much fun. I love it!"

They had a quaint little fourth floor apartment in the heart of the city. This was the view from one of the windows, soft early morning light on the rooftops. The fantastic textures of Paris."

Attention lovers of things German: This wonderfully moody piece is a large 16 inch by 20 inch Fine Arts Silver Gelatin Print on Ilford double weight paper. This full frame 35 mm. image was captured in April, 1887 and is entitled "Fantasy Castle." This hand crafted image is printed, titled and signed by the artist. The actual image measures 18.5 inches by 12.5 inches.

The subtle richness of this Gilchrist Places composition must be seen in person to be appreciated. This low resolution Net image can't do the print justice. The gray tones very rich and subtle. Even though this negative was created very late in the day, it is still full of both highlight and shadow detail. The dark tones of the trees are especially beautiful in person. The elegant castle seems to float in the trees. Notice the little wisps of snow, still holding on in the upper left right corner (the brightest spot in the print).

This is a very unusual image of King Ludwick's most famous German Castle, "Neuschwanste." this image of the Swan Castle was created with a very long telephoto lens on a Nikon F3. Most photographers shoot this most famous castle in the world from the opposite side but it is typically Gilchrist to find a fresh point of view and unusual light.
